Thousands of Palestinians Protest Gaza Border Closure

At least one person has been seriously injured as thousands of Palestinian protesters demonstrated against Egypt's closing of the Rafah border crossing from Gaza.

Reports from the scene Saturday say a teenage protester was critically wounded when Hamas security forces fired into the air to disperse demonstrators.

The Rafah border crossing was controlled by Fatah-led Palestinian security forces until Hamas forces seized control of the Gaza strip in June. The crossing had been the only direct link between Gaza and Egypt.

Hamas seized control of Gaza after six days of clashes in which more than 100 people died. Egypt responded by closing the border.

On Friday, at least eight people in Gaza - including at least one foreign journalist - were injured by what appeared to be stun grenades as Hamas security personnel dispersed a protest by supporters of the rival Fatah faction.
