England Draws Sri Lanka in Second Test

England and Sri Lanka have played to a draw in the second test after rain washed out the afternoon session on the last day Thursday at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

England captain Michael Vaughan, Alastair Cook and Ian Bell each scored half centuries for England. The visitors reached 250-3 by the tea interval, and no further play was possible because of rain.

Both Vaughan and Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene agreed that a win was not possible on the soggy pitch.

Vaughan followed his first innings score of 87 with 61 runs, including eight boundaries. Cook had 62 runs before he edged a ball to Mahela Jayawardene at slip. Bell scored 54 before he was caught out at long-on by Michael Vandort.

The final score was England 351 and 250-3 and Sri Lanka 548-9 declared. The hosts lead the three-test series, 1-0. The third test starts in Galle December 18th. England won the five-match, one-day series, 3-2.
