American golfer Jim Furyk has jumped up four places in the world golf rankings, after winning the first major of his career Sunday at the U.S. Open tournament at Olympia Fields near Chicago.
In rankings released Monday, Furyk moved up to sixth in the world after his three-stroke victory. Canadian Mike Weir finished the event tied for third, and moved up two spots to number three, while second place finisher Stephen Leaney of Australia jumped 32 spots to 23rd on the list.
For the first time since 1999, Tiger Woods of the United States no longer holds any of golf's four major titles, but he still holds a commanding lead at the top of the rankings, ahead of British Open champion Ernie Els of South Africa. Weir is third, while American Davis Love the third and Vijay Singh of Fiji each dropped one spot to number four and five respectively.
Furyk is sixth, with David Toms moving up one notch to number seven. Fellow-American Phil Mickelson dropped two places to number eight, as did Irish golfer Padraig Harrington at number nine. Kenny Perry rounds out the top 10, moving up from 11th place.
