Cricket: Australia Poised for Crushing Victory over India - 2004-10-09

World champions Australia are on the verge of a massive victory over India in the first test of their four-test series in Bangalore.

After Australia amassed 474 runs in its first innings and India answered with 246, the Aussies scored 228 runs in its second innings to leave India a victory target of 457 runs.

No team in test cricket's 128-year-history has been able to score that many runs in its second innings. Only the West Indies has come close, scoring 418 against Australia in 2002-2003.

Australia is trying to win a test series on Indian soil for the first time since 1969. Australia lost its last two test series on the road against India, 2-1.

Meanwhile, Indian cricketer Viredner Sehwag has been called before a disciplinary hearing for misconduct during the match against Australia. Sehwag was seen exchanging words with umpire Billy Bowden of New Zealand and Australian players after being called out leg before wicket Saturday.
