A brief lockdown on an airbase used by American forces in Britain was lifted Monday after a man attempted to force his way in.
Military personnel fired shots at the man who apparently drove a car into a checkpoint gate at the Mildenhall Royal Air Force base in Suffolk.
"Shots were fired by American service personnel and a man has been detained with cuts and bruises," Suffolk Police said. "No other people have been injured as a result of the incident."
The U.S. Air Force said the incident had been contained and the suspect apprehended. Police said the detained man was the only person injured in the incident, suffering cuts and bruises.
The base, used as a transport hub and home to U.S. refueling aircraft, hosts more than 3,000 military personnel and 400 British civilian staff, according to the BBC.
