Riot police used water cannons and fired tear gas at protesters in Bogota, Wednesday, May 5, during the eighth day of nationwide, anti-government protests.
The protests began in opposition to a now-cancelled tax reform plan, but protesters have broadened their scope to include poverty, police violence and social inequalities.
In a video, Wednesday, President Ivan Duque repeated government allegations that drug trafficking mafias were behind vandalism and looting and that more than 500 arrests have been made.
Protests nationwide have resulted in 24 deaths, according to the human rights ombudsman. (REUTERS)
