In 2002, VOA's Kane Farabaugh — then a reporter for the American military — interviewed numerous U.S. service members during a visit to Afghanistan in the early stages of what became a nearly 20-year presence in the country. Recently, as the country fell to the Taliban, Farabaugh followed up with some of the people he had met, now veterans of America's longest war.
