A University of South Carolina research team found evidence to support a theory that suggests a giant space rock that exploded and impacted Earth was the cause of an abrupt climate event about 13,000 years ago. During the Younger Dryas Climate Event temperatures in the northern hemisphere sudden dropped to glacial conditions for the next 1,300 years, just as the Earth was warming from an Ice Age environment.
