Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri ended a two-day visit to neighboring Syria on Sunday. It was his first trip to Syria since the 2005 assassination of his father, former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri -- an attack that Saad Hariri blamed on Syria.
Mr. Hariri said Sunday he had "positive" talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and hoped to build "excellent" relations with Damascus.
He said the U.N. investigation into his father's death is "no longer a personal issue," but rather one for the international community.
U.N. investigators have accused Syria of plotting the Beirut truck bombing that killed Rafik Hariri -- a charge Damascus denies.
Outrage in Lebanon over the assassination, and international pressure, forced Syria to withdraw its troops from Lebanon in 2005, ending a 30-year military presence. Relations between the two neighbors later improved, with both agreeing to establish formal relations last year.
