Libya Seeks Military Support, US Backs Dialogue

Libya’s internationally recognized government has urged Arab countries to launch airstrikes against Islamic State-affiliated militants who have carried out beheadings and crucifixions and taken control of the city of Sirte. In a joint statement released by the State Department, the U.S. and five European nations condemned the atrocities but continued to back political dialogue as a means to bring stability to Libya’s fractured government.
