Pakistan to Appeal Bail for Mumbai Attacker

FILE - Pakistani Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi speaks during a rally at Muzaffarabad, in Pakistani controlled Kashmir.

A Pakistani prosecutor said the government will try to revoke the bail granted to the main suspect in the terror attacks on the Indian city of Mumbai.

The special public prosecutor Abu Zar Peerzada said he will appeal to the High Court to cancel the bail given to Zaki-ur-Rahman Lakhvi Thursday by an anti-terrorism court.

The prosecutor said at this point, Lakhvi has not yet been freed from jail.

Lakhvi is accused of masterminding the 60-hour assault on India's commercial capital in 2008 that left 166 people dead.

During the siege, 10 gunmen attacked luxury hotels, a popular cafe, a train station and a Jewish center.

India reacted with outrage to the news that the main suspect in the case was going to be released.

Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin called the decision a "mockery" of Pakistan's commitment to fight militants.
