Simegnish Yekoye joined the Voice of America in 2021 as a broadcaster in the Amharic Service - on a show called “Gabina”, an infotainment youth radio show broadcast to Ethiopia and Eritrea. She also served as the director of the Ethiopian Environment Journalists Association. Simegnish is an advocate for freedom of expression and she has worked with international media to highlight political, as well as human rights stories that do not garner much coverage.
VOA's Auriane Itangishaka spoke to "Our Voices" co-host Simegnish Yekoye as she shares her most memorable stories in 2021. Simegnish discusses the war in Ethiopia and analyzes the physical, emotional, and mental effects on women and children. She also shares advice for women in the diaspora for 2022.
