16 People Injured in Russian Plane Crash in Siberia

A Russian Ilyushin IL-18 airplane crashed Monday during an emergency landing in northern Siberia with 39 people on board.

Everyone survived, but 16 people were seriously injured, Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The plane, which broke into three pieces, was carrying 32 passengers and seven crew members when it made the emergency landing about 30 kilometers from an airfield near the town of Tiksi, the statement said.

Weather conditions were reportedly bad in the area when the crash happened.

Russian Emergency Ministry dispatched three Mi-8 helicopters to the crash site.
