Thousands of mourners in South Africa said farewell Saturday in Durban to slain national football team captain Senzo Meyiwa.
Meyiwa, 27, was fatally shot last month during an attempted break-in at the home of his girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo.
Those attending the service included his parents and the premier of KwaZulu-Natal province, Senzo Mchunu.
South African police said Friday that they had charged one suspect, Zanokuhle Mbatha, 25, in connection with Meyiwa's October 26 slaying. However, officials said they thought two suspects remained at large.
Police said armed men entered Khumalo's home while seven people were gathered there. They said Meyiwa was shot in the upper body while trying to protect his girlfriend and was dead on arrival at a hospital. The attackers fled following the shooting. No one else was hurt.
Authorities have offered a $23,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the killing. South African President Jacob Zuma called for investigators to "leave no stone unturned."
Meyiwa's death came days after Paralympian Oscar Pistorius was jailed for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, thinking she was an intruder in his Pretoria home.
