Thail police are investigating comments made by the U.S. ambassador to Thailand in connection with a law that bans criticism of the monarchy, but charges are not expected because the ambassador has diplomatic immunity.
Police said Wednesday they are investigating a speech late last month by Ambassador Glyn Davies after receiving a complaint that it violated a law that bars defaming the monarchy.
In the speech, Davies questioned the long prison sentences given by military courts to civilians found guilty of criticizing King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Since the military seized power last year, a number of people have been sentenced to more than 25 years in prison for comments found to have violated the law.
