A rush hour commuter train derailed at a station in New York City’s Brooklyn neighborhood Wednesday, injuring more than 100 people, officials said.
The Long Island Rail Road train derailed after it failed to stop on time and smashed into a bumping block, causing some passengers to fall and hurt themselves.
"What happened with the (train) operator we don’t know, and obviously there will be an investigation to find out exactly what happened and why the operator didn’t stop the train before it hit the bumping block," New York governor Andrew Cuomo said.
Deputy New York Fire Department Chief Dan Donoghue said that 11 people were transported to a hospital, though no one had life-threatening injuries.

Some of the injured passengers were carried off the train on stretchers while others used ice packs to treat bruising from their falls.
The derailment severely damaged the train’s front two cars, with the impact bending the train’s doors and smashing several of its windows.
The Atlantic Terminal, where the crash occurred, connects to nine of the city’s subway lines and is one of the busiest stations in New York City.
Wednesday’s crash marks the second major incident along the city’s commuter railway system in the past three months. In September, a train crashed just across the New York City border, in Hoboken, New Jersey, killing one person and injuring 114 more.
