The International Criminal Court in the Hague announced Thursday that former Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo will go on trial November 10.
Gbagbo and his close aide, Charles Goude, have been charged with crimes against humanity, including murder and rape, allegedly carried out after a disputed 2010 presidential election.
The former president refused to step aside after losing the election to current President Alassane Ouattara, leading to months of protests and street violence before he was arrested.
Gbagbo has been in ICC custody since 2011, a few months after he was toppled with the help of French forces.
Goude commanded the militias that were allegedly behind many of the killings. He was arrested in Ghana in 2013.
