On this edition of Press Conference USA, host Carol Castiel sits down at City Hall with Chris Frye, the newly elected Republican Mayor of New Castle, a once booming town 60 kilometers north of Pittsburgh, in the midwestern state of Pennsylvania. Once a Democratic stronghold, New Castle and the surrounding suburbs/townships of Lawrence County, voted for Donald Trump in 2016. VOA’s Castiel spoke with Mayor Frye, the first African American mayor of New Castle, about the challenges of governing a small town in economic decline and Mr. Trump’s electoral prospects in November given the coronavirus pandemic, the slower than expected economic recovery and protests against police violence and racial injustice.
