Afghan officials say a bomb blast in a crowded marketplace in the western province of Herat has killed four people.
A Herat spokesman says 12 people were also wounded by the blast Saturday, including three policemen.
The attack comes three days after a bomb planted on a bicycle wounded 14 people in the city of Herat, capital of Herat Province. The remote-controlled bomb also exploded in a crowded shopping area, and was detonated as people were shopping for Eid, a major holiday on the Islamic calendar.
Also Saturday, Britain's Defense Ministry said a British soldier was killed in southern Afghanistan on Friday. A statement said the soldier died while on duty in the Nahri Saraj District in Helmand Province.
